An innovative glass canopy created using SFS intec’s glass attachment systems has completed the entrance to the newly refurbished administration building of TT2, the company that operates the existing Tyne Tunnel and is currently developing the new tunnel.

Designed and installed by architectural glazing and façade specialist glassHUS Ltd for main contractor Meldrum Construction, the canopy has been created using 12 flat laminated glass panels in a faceted arrangement to deliver a curved appearance.

The glass panels are secured to a dark blue (RAL5017) structural steel framework using SFS intec’s articulated point fixings in combination with its spider fixings to ensure a reliable angled attachment.

With a total glazed surface area of 27.5m2, the canopy provides extensive cover for the busy entrance door which is used by staff of the administration building at Tyne Tunnel.

Simon Tuckwell, Managing Director of glassHUS says, “We’re really pleased with the finished canopy and the solution provided by SFS intec. Their articulated point fixings have enabled us to create a curved looking canopy without the expense of curved glass.

“With a project of this nature, we can’t afford to take any risks with the long term reliability of the attachment system. At TT2, the combination of articulated point fixings and four or two armed spider fixings works perfectly.”

In addition to its wide range of single point and spider fixings, SFS intec offers an easy to specify glass canopy system in three packages to suit small, medium and large canopies. Attachment is by proven SFS intec single-point glass retainers and tie rods mounted on the wall bracket with bolts and locking pins. The pitch of the canopy can be adjusted +/- 5 degrees by rotating the tie rods.

Further information about SFS intec’s attachment systems is available at www.sfsintec.biz/uk or by calling 0113 2085 500.
