Scheuten glass, The Netherlands, supplied 30,000 square meters of glass in a variety of compositions for the building of the Ministry of Safety and Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, according to a March 16 release. Construction will be completed in December 2012.

On the instructions of the Government Buildings Agency, Hans Kollhoff designed a building with two 146-meter-high towers to house the Ministry of Safety and Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Incidence of light, solar heat and safety are important elements in the design. To that end, Scheuten supplied 50 percent insulating glass and 50 percent laminated glass. The insulating glass has a special coating that makes maximum use of solar heat. In addition, special fire-resistant glazing was developed, which complies with a very high safety class, set by the Government Buildings Agency. Scheuten also supplied Multisafe laminated safety glass that will act as an additional building shell.

AKS Bouw BV of Grubbenvorst has been involved in the development of aluminum and steel frames, including casement windows since 2004. "This special frame comprises an insulated inner shell and a non-insulated outer shell, with a ventilated space in-between with integrated sun blinds," said Lei Brunken, project leader at AKS Bouw BV, in the release. "The casement window also meets very strict requirements in terms of wind loads (5,000 to 7,000 Pa), for which special profiles were developed in cooperation with Schüco International." Given the tight delivery schedule, the company needed a reliable partner with sufficient production capacity. "For AKS Bouw BV, Scheuten was the most suitable partner, and an important team player within the framework of this project."

"The new development for the Ministry of Safety and Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations is a highly prestigious project because of its size and international style," said Roy van Leeuwen, commercial manager, Scheuten glass, in the release. "On top of that, a very high fire safety class was required. Thanks to the versatility of our products and the combination options we were able to offer a suitable solution. We are extremely proud that we have been instructed to carry out this extensive assignment for AKS Bouw BV."
